I read the primer (after reading the plan, of course).

I have some questions.

How do we really know that silo'ing is responsible for all that high SERP positions. How do we isolate that.

When looking at allaboutlawns.com for example:

-domain is SEVEN years old
-it is listed in Yahoo directory
-It may have a lot of good anchor texts from themed PR authority sources (I don't have seo elite yet, so have not done that analysis)

So how can we isolate the effect of silo'ing from all of the above to really understand what is going on. In the videos I watched, there was not any mention of the above effects.

Is this forum 'not happening'? I have posted this question quite a few days back, even pm'ed Charles. No answer. I come over and there are no new posts (except for one anchor spammer).

I love the stuff being discussed here, but where are the people, where is Charles?

Go out on the Internet just like I did and look at different cases. Most high ranking sites have a listing in either Yahoo Directory or DMOZ or both.

Look for 2 sites in any niche with the same domain age, both being listed in the Yahoo directory.... one siloed & one not and there you have the isolation you're looking for.

Thanks, Charles. I appreciate.

So at the end, it comes to being aware of different variables (e.g. anchor text, listed in DMOZ/Yahoo, theming/siloing), and then studying different sites with awareness of those variables, and trying to discern what variable is responsible for high placement.

Also, it would behoove us to incorprate all the variables (or techniques) into our sites, to get that slight edge.

Bruceclay is #3 for "search engine optimization". If you type that (with quotes) into google, 2.6 million results are returned, and like you, he is into theming/siloing, so there must be great deal of merit to this approach.
