Hi Charles,
I have 60 sites in subfolders on my domain.info/site. They are 'packaged' php sites. As such they have no meta headings.
Is it worth the effort to submit these to directories or will they all be rejected?
Also for the long term would it be better organised like this or to put future sites in subdomains.mydomain.info?
I assume that these php sites would benefit from article submission to article directories via an appropriate article and text backlink.
Can I salvage this or is it best to scrap the lot?
Keep up the good work Charles.
Regards,
Adrian |

Can I assume that this problem stumped everyone?

Directories will usually only accept the core domain.com
It is best to have separate niches on separate complete domains but niche.domain.com can work as well though I don't recommend it.
You could do some article directory work on the PHP lot. I wouldn't scrap it unless you can see it holding you back.

My first couple of domains were hosted through GoDaddy (cheap, lots of hosting space) BUT I can't host multiple domains with each account (only one) so for these websites I have chosen to make subdomains (ie niche.domain.com) extra websites.
However, this fell down when I realized I couldn't submit them to directories! Annoying! The big problem is that my initial sites weren't at all focused to a particular niche, but were designed to be "information about lots of things sites" and submitting them to directories is VERY challenging, because it's so hard to categorize them!
However, I can still use them this way by a) using the subdomain on articles that I submit to article directories and b) choosing linking partners in relevant niches and having them use my subdomains, so all is not lost!
However, there's no way I'll ever buy another "general" domain name (unless I pick up a PR5 one very cheaply )
Cheers
Fiona
PS I also had a bunch of PHP encoded sites I bought (which had Adsense in them, plus Amazon etc. but I never found they went anywhere, so I scrapped them!) I don't know what your packaged sites are like, but if they were anything like mine, then I wouldn't bother submitting them. You'd have to have one per domain anyway (for the directories) and to me that's a waste of a good domain |

Adrian,
There is one other very important reason to NOT use subdomains on future niches you develop. It occurred to me after I went down this route myself with a main domain and a bunch of baby subdomains.
If, at any time in the future, one of your niche sites takes off and you want to sell or lease it out for an enormous profit, you won't be able to break off the subdomain (by creating a new domain name) from the main domain without losing some if not all of your rankings and links.
Just my humble opinion,
