Hi,
Well, it's been about 8 weeks since I submitted several sites to about 200 directories (using submiteaze's list) and I am still not index by Google.
Yahoo and MSN indexed my sites fairly quickly. Am I being too impatient? If I add navigation and adsense, will google not index my sites the same as if I wait and pray tell, how long will that be? Is there something else I can do to speed up the process with Google? Thanks

I never bother to submit my sites to the directories anymore.
Instead, I just get a couple of links from PR 5 or PR 6 sites. These can be links from posting on a blog, a public forum, or by submitting a few articles to a couple of the bigger article directories. My latest site was indexed by Google in 3 days.
Oh, do you have a Google Sitemap on your site? This will help immensely with getting Google to notice you.
Hope this helps,

Hi Sid,
No, I don't have site maps on either of these sites. I will add them. Thanks for your advice. I'll try it.

Says who? (you don't have to answer that - 'cause it's rhetorical)
Directory listing results in links - but are not a direct source of any significant amount of traffic.
It's your position in the SERPs that results in traffic, and I'm able to get 1st page rankings in Google, MSN and Yahoo - without waiting on directories to list my sites, so I don't bother.

Sorry cudjoe,
I was a little sarcastic with my rhetorical question, but I hope I didn't confuse anyone.
I know that Charles makes a point of having everyone submit their sites to the directories, but I think it's a totally unnecessary step.
Their purpose is to get your site indexed - but it's a lot of work and it just takes too long. There was a time when I would have recommended getting indexed by DMOZ because it was a sure way to get indexed by Google, but these days I get indexed by Google before Yahoo or MSN either one, and in less than a week.

Directory submissions accomplish much more than simply getting you indexed. They also provide good one way backlinks.
You should go for listings in DMOZ simply because a listing there can boost you in the SERPs a great deal. A listing in the Yahoo directory has similar effect.
You don't need directory submissions to get indexed but they do help with backlinks. If you have an existing site with PR you could be indexed in a matter of hours but what does indexing accomplish if you don't have ranking?
This is why I suggest directory submissions as a good overall solution to indexing and getting a few backlinks at the same time.

There is no confusion at all sidhale. I understand your ponit of view. Personally, I really like articles for my traffic and for page rank purpose.
However, I think that adding directories can only benefit my websites. So I do it too. I think that a bunch of backlinks from good directories can only help.
It's true that it is time consuming though. |

That was pretty much my point. I can use that time to get links from other sources and it's easier and quicker. I'm certainly NOT going to wait for directory submission to get my site indexed.
The recommendation in this forum is to use directory submission to get indexed, and to wait until after the directories have listed your site to monetize your pages.
This thread began with a posting by Naomy about waiting 2 months for Google to index her site. I'm earning money a week after I pick a domain name. Why wait?
