This is my first post, so I'd first like to say that the plan and what Charles is doing is fabulous. I've been studying everything about online marketing that I can get my hands on for the last six months or so and the plan is now bringing it all into focus. And it's because the plan (and the SEO 20/20 website and forum) is so focussed and methodical that it works and inspires. Thanks Charles.
My question is about keywords in domain names. Can the search engine read the keywords in a longer word? For example, if my keyword is golf, would this word be picked up in the domain name bestgolfsite.com?
Also, do you recommend a new domain name for each site or do subdomains work as well? If I have an overall domain of bestwebsites.com for example, does www.golf.bestwebsites.com work as well as bestgolfsite.com?
Thanks,
Doug |

I believe search engines can read individual words in domain names.
Here is an example from Google:
Life in the USA: The Complete Guide for Immigrants and Americans
Life in the USA: The Complete Guide for Immigrants and Americans.
www.lifeintheusa.com/ - 15k - Cached - Similar pages
(That was doing a search for complete life guide) you can see how "life" in the domain name is bolded, meaning that the search engine can read it.

Hi Doug,
I had the same question, have had it for a while actually. Is it better to register a domain name or can you tack it onto a generic domain such as your bestwebsite.com example.
I am becoming a bit obsessed about squeezing every little advantage I can out of my seo tactics, so would like an answer on this one, or an opinion would do just as well
Regards

I would think that if you had a generic domain name and used subdomains with your keywords it would work equally well in the search engines. So you could have: http://wonderfulwidgets.mybestwebsite.com
And google would recognize the words "wonderful" and "widgets" in your domain name.
Cheers

Thanks everyone. I did my own Google search and lo and behold the word that I search on, if it is part of the domain name, is bolded. Guess the answer was staring me in the face the whole time.
Thanks again,
