The short answer is no.
The long answer is it depends
with MSN and Yahoo it appears that volume is the primary indicator. That being said, both these engines are playing catchup with Google which has an element of quality and relation in the link algos. In other words, while sheer volume is good in MSN and Yahoo I'd expect that we'll soon see them follow suit by disqualified irrelevant or low quality links.
In fact we are seeing this begin to happen in MSN already.
So if not volume then what?
What you need to focus on is link quality. That means having high quality inbound descriptive text links from sites relevant or related to your own.
For example, if you sell game consoles like Xbox or PS3 then you need links back from highly popular game related sites like Next-Generation, Gizmondo and Portagame (for example).
In other words you need links from the sites that get the most traffic. Now as you can imagine this could have a couple benefits.
First, you will inherit high link popularity from these sites. That will boost your own link pop ultimately positively impacting your rankings.
Secondly, you will benefit from increased referrals from these sites as people find your link.
Third, as time goes on you'll see increased referrals from search engines as your rankings begin to improve due to all the high quality links. |
