Directory submissions are your first goal for getting crawled and indexed by the search engines. They are a great way to get indexed naturally and should only be used for that purpose.
A common malpractice, however, is to continue submitting to directories as part of a backlink building plan. Directories is only one aspect of building backlinks but should not be your only focus.
Once you are listed in 30 - 40 directories then stop & concentrate on building other types of backlinks.

I have a client who has been previously submitted to multiple directories (I have the list from Alexa).
Because of some keywork and tag re-working, I'm wondering about the best way to change the description most of them have (which is identical wording).
Or, is it best to just leave the description after already submitting? |

The main focus is the keyword anchor text linking to the site. The description in the deirectories is more geared toward gaining human clicks from the directories themselves. If you ar only concerned with directories from a rankings standpoint then I would not boter modifying the descriptions.
You want to have varying keyword anchor texts in the directories. Is this what you meant?
Forgive me if I am misunderstanding your question.

THANKS--THAT CLEARS THAT UP

I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT THE ANCHOR TEXTS, BUT NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT (AND I DO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN) DO YOU RECOMMEND
CHANGING ALL 17 of THEM OR JUST A FEW OF THEM (THE ANCHOR TEXT IS SIMPLY THE URL WHICH IS SIMPLY THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS)?

Your site will tend to rank for anchor text that links to your site. If it is your wish to rank for your company name then leave everything as is. Change the anchor text if you want to rank for other keywords. |

Charles, if I can get my site indexed quickly without submitting in directories (with the help of some other *good* and *relevant* links), still you think I should submit my sites to directories?
Also, what is meant by "indexed naturally"?
Thanks
Cheers!!! |
