Could you also explain the thinking process needed
in order to determine how to decide what becomes
a silo when keyword phrases overlap silos.
For example:
categories
brands
material
Size
My pre-seo2020 sites have main menu pages that contain
some category and some brand pages. Depending on the niche
both are highly searched. So some articles could be in both
types of silos.

Hi Jeremy,
Try to break your question down into baby talk... my head is numb from typing all day and what you are asking is going right over my head.
Thanks,

Actually I feel awake.
Let's say we are making a website which will
review guitars.
I'm doing my research with the best tool on the planet 'Overture' lol.
So we see high demand for acoustic, electric, and bass guitars,
we also see the top brands of guitar are Gibson, Fender, and Martin.
Lots of people like to search by the type of guitar and the brand,
so we include them in our main menu to cater to both.
We are starting off with 6 silos there can be many more as there
are many more brands of guitar.
Let's dig into the electric guitar vertical market:
68749 electric guitar
2221 acoustic electric guitar
1407 how to play electric guitar
1199 cheap electric guitar
1100 fender electric guitar
1077 ibanez electric guitar
1011 electric bass guitar
768 electric guitar picture
767 gibson electric guitar
672 electric guitar lesson
672 electric guitar string
624 electric guitar kit
As you can see just from this list there are a number of
other silos such as:
acoustic guitar
bass guitar
fender guitar
gibson guitar
ibanez guitar
there are more than enough keywords in each of the
above vertical markets for its own silo, and they all
contain the word electric somewhere in there list.
Even if we only choose acoustic, bass, and electric
as silos they also over lap:
acoustic electric guitar
electric bass guitar
Guitars may be an extreme example of this overlap,
but other niches have this to a lesser extent.
What is the best way to organize this.
So far as I am making virtual directories for my
pre-seo2020 sites, I go by the 1st word as the main idea.
So acoustic electric guitar goes in the acoustic silo,
electric bass guitar goes in the electric silo and so on.
Take it easy Charles

Thanks Charles,
I've organized 4 of my pre seo2020 sites into silos,
and linked all the articles in a silo to all the articles
in the same silo.
Today I am choosing keywords to give to the writers,
by choosing keywords within silos that have less than 5
articles, to fill them in first.
This got me thinking......
Is there a certail order in which you add content to a site
that would help it rank better.
For instance: you start your site with index page and 5
landing pages, your sites gets indexed and you start
to add articles to fill in those silos.
Is it better to add 25 articles filling in those silos with
5 articles each first or is it ok to add 15 articles each silos
has 3 articles and add 5 more landing pages with one
article in each silo.
I'm sure either way is fine, but is there a best way of doing this
which helps rankings.
Thanks,
Jeremy |

Sure it's good to have more, but if you've gotta outsource to get content, then you may have to settle for a few less, at least until the site's turning a profit!

Hi,
The comment above about the Bruce Clay newsletter simply means that the most targeted keywords should reamain higher up in your directory structure.
I did some interviews with Bruce Clay employees and gleaned that they are primarily market research driven keyword researchers which is very good.
Here is an interview I had with Kevin M, a former employee of John MCarthy.
http://www.keyworduniversity.com/White-Hat-SEO.html
He is no longer with Bruce Clay (he actually had a stroke and needed to stop commuting into L.A.).
I figure about 200 keywords in the top 2 layers of your website make sense if you are casting a wide synomic net.
