Hi,

I am happy to be a member of this forum and I am following very carefully all posts as well as the articles of Charles.

Charles has mentioned the importance of the H1 tag.

My question is this: Should you put this tag on the main page only or should you put it on all of your pages?

Regards

Finn

Put your main keyword pharase for each page inside of the < H 1 > tag. Ideally the H1 should be the first text that a spider reads upon arriving at your site.

The H1 is telling the spider that this phrase is important and that the phrase describes what the page is all about.

Definitely put H1 on all of your pages.

I use the H1 tag on every page, and sometimes use H2-3, depending on the article. Because an H1 tag produces a very large font, I reduce the size of the font within the tag to 12-14 point font. So, it would look thus:

<H1 align=center><FONT face="Verdana, Sans-Serif" size=4><U>Your Heading Here</U></FONT></H1>

Largest would be "size 1".

HTH...

Peace,

Charlie~

It does not depend on pages, you can put in wherever you think it is important.

A page can have more than one H1 Tag.

The H1 tag is important. But don't always expect to get traffic from the specific term enclosed in the H1 tag and then assume it does not mean anything. The body is going to play a major role along with the popularity of the niche you are targetting. Also don't forget title tags which are just as important if not more than the h1.

I agree. I have to think that the rules of the game have not changed so drastically that this would not be important...

Hi everybody,
It's my first time in this forum, but I'm not tottaly new on SEO. So, here's my take on H1 tag.

I agree that it helps, but you need to compare your site againsts your competitor. If the top 10 in G don't have h1 all over the place, I wouldn't want to put too many or even one on my site. You can get over optimization penalty if you're stuffing too many H tags on your body, especially if you don't have too much of a content.

Yahoo and especially MSN are still counting onsite optimization, but I believe Google factored in offsite optimization more than onsite one.

Charlie, it is a lot neater and more SE -friendly if you redefine the characteristics of the H1 tag (or any other tag) via an external CSS file.

According to Brad Callen of SEO Elite, the anchor text is 95% of the game, and the on-page stuff is 5% of the game.

Having said that, it is better to optimize the page, and h1 tag plays an imprtant role.

I completely agree that you don't want to stuff your pages with the H1 tag, but I definitely think the H1 tag should be used once on each page. That's certainly not overdoing it, and is helping to tell the search engines what your page is about.

Nevertheless, the H1 tag (or any other tag) won't make up for poor content or an overall lack of content.

Cheers
Fiona
