Introduction to Tag and Ping
a How-To Guide

 You have probably already heard all of the buzz going around about the new tag and ping method of gaining immediate exposure and backlinks for your blogs or websites.

There is no doubt that this is an effective method for creating traffic on demand. I am a big believer in steering clear of the hype and doing things in a simple way. Don't get sucked into the hype because it is my intent to teach you the same information at no cost.

What is Tag and Ping?

Tagging is a relatively new way to categorize relevant information on the web. The unique thing about tagging is that people (not search engines) are in control of content that is associated with a tag.

A tag is a simple but brief description of what the content within that tag is about. For example, I could categorize this article under the tag "tag and ping" or "tags" or "tagging and pinging".

When someone goes to a website like Technorati.com they may do a search for "tag and ping" and if I categorized my blog post under "tag and ping" and then pinged Technorati then my blog post would appear at the top of the search results under the tag "tag and ping".

The idea here is that within a few minutes your new post will appear at the very top of the search results in Technorati until someone else writes a blog post under the same tag then you move down one spot. The more popular the tag the faster your post will move down the list.

As you can see from the video the process is really quite simple once you get everything set up.

1. Write a blog post
2. Choose the category you want your blog post to be categorized (tagged) as.
3. Make sure that your blog pings technorati.com
4. Technorati.com will immediately visit your blog post and place you in the number one position under the tags that you categorized the post under.

If you are writing a post under a "hot" tag you can immediately get tons of targeted traffic to your blog. Where you lead that visitor once they arrive at your blog is entirely up to you. The possibilities are endless:

• You could lead them to your website from the blog post
• You could generate clicks from Adsense ads
• You could lead them to a sales letter for your product
• You could lead them to an opt-in page to subscribe to your list

Tagging and pinging is a very effective way to get free traffic. Just be sure to stay on topic for the tag you post under.

This is just one of many ways to make money with the tag and ping method. Do a search for tags related to your niche to find categories to "tag" your blog posts under.
