Keyword research has always been
shrouded in mystery and confusion. You may be surprised
to learn that most people don't know what keyword
research is.
In years past keyword research tools
were used as a means to gather as many high traffic
keywords as possible in order to automatically build
huge websites in an effort to rank for each of those
keywords in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
Keyword research tools were extremely
useful in 2002 - 2005. Back then it was easy to build a
huge website, each keyword from your keyword list having
its own web page. This was an easy way to enjoy top 10
rankings in the search engines.
Times have changed because the search
engines have cracked down on automatically built "junk
sites" that have little or no value to "human" readers.
You won't find garbage sites at the top of the search
engines anymore. They are pointless and they are a waste
of time to build.
If you want to succeed in today's online
market place then you need to advance your thinking
about what keyword research is and what it is meant to
accomplish.
Keyword research can be used for many
things including:
-
Finding profitable markets
-
Finding keywords that are used when
a prospect is almost ready to buy or ready to buy.
-
Knowing what keywords to use within
the context of the keyword you wish to rank for in
the search engines. This is an element of
Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) known as the
co-occurrence matrix.
The co-occurrence matrix is the search
engines' latest attempt to weed out junk and spam using
an intelligent automatic algorithm that comes closer
than any other algorithm to finding relevance in a way
that is close to how humans find information to be
relevant. Read more about the
co-occurrence matrix.
Keyword research tools are largely
obsolete due to the fact that the co-occurrence matrix
shifts around in real-time while the data you get from
keyword research tools are 3 - 6 months old.
Popular keyword research tools like
NicheBot, Keyword Elite, Keyword Discovery, etc. all use
data that is NOT fresh. Though some of these keyword
research tools claim to have an element of LSI
calculation the data they is still not fresh and is
problematic when you use them to make content and
website structure decisions.
ThemeZoom is one of the few tools on the
market that actually produces keyword data in real-time.
ThemeZoom is currently the only tool that both
gathers fresh data and uses a co-occurrence algorithm to
give you true, up-to-the-minute, "market based" keyword
choices.
In order to gain top 10 rankings in any
online market under ANY keyword you need fresh, market
driven data. Market driven data is nothing more than
keyword data that tells you the following information:
-
Is it relevant to your business and
what you're selling?
-
Where does it belong within the
hierarchy of your website. In other words, what page
of your website should the keyword appear & where in
your website?
-
How much PPC (Pay Per Click) cost is
tied to the keyword? The higher the cost the more
"relevance" you will have to establish. Google
understands that if there are high PPC bids for a
keyword that they must tighten up their algorithm so
that spammy or junk sites won't appear near the top
of the results.
-
How much traffic does the keyword
get? The higher the PPC cost and the traffic, the
harder it is to rank. Co-occurrence keyword tools
are very important if you want top 10 ranking for
high traffic, high cost terms (like insurance or
payday loans).
-
What other keywords are related to
the keyword you wish to rank for and WHERE do they
belong in your website content?
-
Is the keyword likely to lead to the
sale of a product or service you're promoting?
-
How many & what other keywords you
need to cover in order to be seen relevant for the
main keyword you are targeting (co-occurrence)?
I know this all sounds a little complex
but all new trends and processes require a bit of
learning. It is my job to teach you all of this in a
very clear way. Teaching "truth" is the purpose of
SEO20/20.
I strongly suggest that you join the
SEO20/20 tutorial series if you have not done so already
(it's free). Our tutorial series will walk you through
the 8 elements that are required in order to produce a
profitable website in today's WEB 2.0 environment. The
first thing you will receive is the "Market Domination"
report followed by a new lesson every 3 days.
I will cover everything in regard to
advanced keyword research within this series.
Conclusion...
Advanced keyword research is nothing
more than knowing exactly what you're doing in regard to
keyword placement on your website. Using a keyword tool
that utilizes LSI (preferably co-occurrence) is the best
tool that you can use to assure yourself of top 10 or
top 3 placement in the search engines for every keyword
you target.
I like to call this "market
domination" and this is the main topic of SEO20/20.
Advanced keyword research is knowing the
"reason" and "purpose" of each keyword and knowing when
and where to place that keyword for maximum exposure in
the search engines... Period.
If you are allowing keyword research to
determine the design of your website then you are making
a BIG mistake. You must let your market determine how
your website and content should be structured. If you
are not market driven then you re forgetting about
co-occurrence. If you forget about co-occurrence then
the search engines will forget about you.
