Silo Website Design
In the last tutorial you learned how to avoid theme
bleeding in your website. Theme bleeding is a common
occurrence for most websites.
Those of you reading this that own The Master Plan have
already learned about these things but there are new
developments that even Master Plan owners need to be aware
of.
Since me and Russell Wright of ThemeZoom have introduced
the concept of Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) to the main
stream we have come under attack by some saying that LSI is
just a theory and that there is no hard evidence to support
the fact that Google or any other search engine really use
it.
On December 28th 2006 Google filed a new patent
application titled "Detecting
spam documents in a phrase based information retrieval
system". Google engineer, Anna Lynn
Patterson is the inventor or this patent. Here is a quote
directly from the patent:

"An information retrieval system uses phrases to index,
retrieve, organize and describe documents. Phrases are
identified that predict the presence of other phrases in
documents. Documents are the indexed according to their
included phrases. A spam document is identified based on the
number of related phrases included in a document." |

What this is basically saying falls right in line with
what I have been teaching you. This is very important so pay
close attention...
Google has filed a patent for an algorithm that will
index and rate the "relevance" of web pages to determine if
there is also an occurrence of phrases related to the
subject matter of a web page.
In other words if you intend to rank for the phrase golf
clubs then you better discuss things related to golf clubs
like:
Callaway, Wilson and Mizuno which are brands that LSI
will associate with the word "golf clubs".
This latest Google patent puts us one step closer to
confirming that LSI is in effect. We also know the algorithm
is in effect because of the ranking power of writing
articles with LSI in mind.
William Slawski of SEObyTheSea has written a very eye
opening article about
Phrase Based Information Retrieval and Spam. Do yourself
a big favor and go ahead and read the entire article. This
stuff is crucial to your understanding of what is happening
behind the scenes that makes a strong case for what I am
teaching here.
As you can see more and more SEO experts are starting to
understand that Latent semantic indexing, “sparse matrix”
and “co-occurrence” algorithms are here to stay.
With that said, writing good articles to include LSI based keywords
related to your core topic are vital.
As a result of this algorithm it has become very hard to
fool the search engines by placing haphazard content on your
website. It has become necessary to actually know the
subject matter within the niche subject areas that you
intend to make money with.
This is not hard to do... It is quite easy to write good
articles or have good article written. This subject is
covered in The
Master Plan
and will also be covered deeply at
University2020.
Google's LSI algorithm is able to sniff spammy content
and lower it in the ranks. Say goodbye to
keyword density analysis. Now it's all about theme
density.
Theme density is how many related words appear in
connection with the subject of a web page that is determined
to be relevant by the search engines.
Theme density on a single web page is not enough. Your
entire website needs to incorporate a linking structure that
supports theme density. This most common way to assure the
overall theme density of your entire website is to structure
it using what is called a
silo
structure (click the link to see a previous lesson).
Here is a diagram of a very basic silo structure for a
web site:

By organizing your LSI based website content into a silo
structure you will automatically enhance both the theme of
individual pages within the silo and the silo itself. This
has been proven to be a powerful factor in beating 99% of
the websites across most markets on the Internet.
In upcoming lessons I will show you that it is actually
quite easy to dominate most markets.
As a living breathing example of siloing in effect look
at this site. In the ultra competitive market of SEO this
site has achieved a strong position 7 in Google for the term
"seo
tutorials". Not bad since SEO 20/20 is less than a year
old at the time of this writing.
Another example of the effectiveness of this strategy can
be summed up nicely from an unsolicited testimonial I
